And Just Like That....
From SATC to Juicy Couture to Baguette Bags, it seems like everything is making a comeback in 2022. Post the dot com boom, Y2K fashion is best described as mean girls meet the matrix. Tiny crop tops, "below the belly button" baggy trousers, pastels, pleated skirts, and metallics.
Its common practice for styles to circle back with a fresh take. Nearly two decades later we see designers and public figures taking cues from Y2K fashion and giving it their unique spin. It’s time to roll out the big guns and greet your inner Carrie Bradshaw.

The Visionary:
Among the first to jump on this trend was the recently departed powerhouse of talent, Manfred Thierry Mugler. He showcased denim pieces color-blocked with leather and paired with a tiny futuristic bandeau.

For the love of Denim:
Say what you will but who doesn’t love a pair of well-fitted jeans. Although Gen Z slashed skinny jeans, low-rise jeans are still a part of the game. This trend escalated because of all the iconic stars. In the age of the “impossibly flat stomach”,this trend was almost every icon’s weapon of choice.

This trend of layering denim is all about the silhouettes, paired correctly denim on denim is a look that is most definitely packs a statement. A tip to the wise, keep the fabric color consistent to create a clean, seamless, powerful look!
A personal favourite: light-washed cut-off vests with low-rise jeans from IRO.

Pastels:
We’ve all seen the colours of the season: gorgeous shades of purple. What’s interesting is the different ways designers have adapted pastels. We saw a lilac jumpsuit on the Saint Laurent runway, structured silhouettes, and flowy slip dresses from Loewe.

*Bend and Snap* some other looks to wait for:
Tie-up crop tops, translucent pastels/colour pop, matrix-y uniforms, tinted sunglasses, velour tracksuits, super low waist jeans, and skirts are all trends that are likely to go “tik-tok” viral. Since the millennial and Gen-Z consumer cohorts are prime luxury fashion tastemakers, we can expect to see a rapid rollout of these styles.

I for one wonder if we’ll welcome flip phones with the same enthusiasm.
Let me know which trends if any, you’re excited to follow.
Happy Monday!
xx
